New Mexico has recently been lifted from the quarantine list for Vesicular stomatitis. The states that are now quarantined for VS are Colorado,  Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska.

For any horses that are going to or coming from one of these 7 states there will be a mandatory 21 day quarantine period outside of the affected state in a non-affected state. Following the mandatory quarantine period you will have to obtain a new USDA health certificate for your horse to return to Canada. This applies for horses that have been in the USA both under and over 60 days. You are able to pass through a quarantined state as long as you do not take your horses off the trailer or take other horses on to your trailer but this is not recommended. CFIA recommends that you avoid traveling through a quarantined state at all costs. You will be traveling through a quarantined state at your own risk. They reserve the right to refuse you entry to Canada if they perceive there to be any problems.

We recommend that if you do not need to travel to these states to avoid them if at all possible. If you have any questions or if there is anything we can help with please feel free to contact the office at or 403-226-2585 and we’d be more than happy to assist.
